As with most things, a great home starts with a great plan. When building a home, customers have two options when selecting their plan.
The first option is to select a stock plan from an architect that specializes in stock plans. These plans are tried and tested. They’re normally tweaked from customer and builder feedback and designed to appeal to the general population since they will be built many times. This doesn’t mean that you will have the same home as your neighbor. The chances of that would be quite rare. But it does mean that you will not have a truly one-of-a-kind design, so this wouldn’t be the best route if that’s your kind of thing. Stock plans can still be modified slightly for the customer and the buyer can still select all of their finishes like tile, flooring, and paint colors. Stock plans typically run $2500-3000 for a ~2100 sqft house.
For those interested in truly designing a custom home from a blank slate, the other option is working with an architect to design a fully custom home plan. The price range for this type of plans varies but expect to pay at least $10,000 for a fully customized plan. Whichever option you choose, we can recommend architects to help you.
